Enthusiasm, joy as Alberta kids take their initial COVID-19 vaccines

Vaccines for kids now available in Alberta: 

There were laughs, some tears and numbers of Band-Aids covered on tiny arms as Alberta’s COVID-19 vaccination hospitals unlocked their access to kids Friday. 

Dates for Pfizer-BioNTech’s pediatric vaccine started Friday morning. 

Thousands of children were engaged to take shots on the opening day of the rollout.

Kai Colgan, 6, was glad to roll up his sleeve in Edmonton, for a whole big purpose. Taking the shot will intend he can promptly visit family abroad.

“I just wanted to go to Ireland,” he stated, smiling behind his mask. “It did not hurt.” Source –

Kai’s father, Nathan Colgan, told getting his son vaccinated was the correct action to do and the method was seamless.

“The nurses were great. You know, It’s pretty scary for some of the kids but they were great with everybody,” he told.  Source –

As of 8 a.m., 62,739 pediatric dates for kids ages 5 to 11 had been engaged over the region, Alberta Health described. There were 2,057 appointments scheduled for Friday in Edmonton and 1,750 in Calgary.

‘A long time getting’

Michelle Power took sons Kristian, 7, Scott, 10, and Shane, 11, to get their vaccines Friday morning at a south Edmonton hospital.

Power said she got up early Wednesday to get dates for all her sons.

“I’m excited because we are really looking forward to doing some normal things,” she told. “It’s been a long time coming.”  Source –
