Walmart to eradicate the use of plastic bags all over Canada:
The modification will apply to all of Walmart’s almost 400 places across the nation by April 22, which is even Earth Day.
“Eliminating plastic shopping bags is a significant milestone on our journey to becoming a regenerative company – and it’s the right thing to do,” Horacio Barbeito, president and CEO of Walmart Canada, stated in a press release. Source – cbc.ca
Walmart states the difference will avert nearly three-quarters of a billion plastic bags from joining circulation per year.
The federal government had earlier declared a forbidding on particular single-use plastic items, including bags, straws and cutlery, which would take impact by the end of 2021, but now hopes rules to be completed sometime following year.
The government prohibition is a portion of a bigger goal to ultimately stop plastic waste in a step to decrease greenhouse gas emissions.
According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, Canadians dump three million tonnes of plastic garbage per year, and just nine per cent of it is reclaimed.
