Alberta Health states privacy violation likely on region’s vaccine passport website

Key takeaways:

  • Region states at least 12 people downloaded the incorrect vaccine report.
  • Alberta Health states any users downloaded the incorrect QR code from the region’s COVID reports website.

Probably a data breach on Alberta’s vaccine passport:

The region’s vaccine record website underwent a likely privacy violation, Alberta Health announced in a statement Thursday.

Alberta Health states it has collected records of at least 12 users who downloaded the incorrect data from the region’s COVID-19 vaccination record website on Wednesday. The report those users downloaded included the name, date of birth and vaccine information. The government says no other data was dripped.

As of 7 p.m. Thursday the site was still offline. Alberta Health states an inquiry is initiated to discover the problem, and the number of Albertans affected.

The problem does not seem to be caused by a security violation to the system, the region says, and the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner has been informed.

Alberta Health Minister Jason Copping stated he wants to confess to Albertans who may have experienced problems obtaining the updated vaccine record for travel.

“The government had months to plan and they continue to fail Alberta families,” NDP MLA for Edmonton-Glenora, Sarah Hoffman stated during the interrogation period in Edmonton Thursday, asking Premier Jason Kenney to regret the “chaos” around vaccine passports. Source – cbc.ca
