Oilers blowout Ducks to stay unbeaten under Woodcroft

Key takeaways:

  • Edmonton is 4-0 under the interim manager.
  • Anaheim Ducks goalkeeper John Gibson (36) is netted on as the Edmonton Oilers’ Jesse Puljujarvi (13), William Lagesson (84), and Zach Hyman (18) celebrate during second period NHL action in Edmonton on Thursday.

Oilers beat the Ducks as they stay undefeated:

The Edmonton Oilers have looked like a squad with a new lease on life since making a coaching difference the previous week and allowing Dave Tippett to go.

Leon Draisaitl had a couple of goals as the Oilers stayed an ideal 4-0 under new head coach Jay Woodcroft, coming from behind to beat the Anaheim Ducks 7-3 on Thursday to pose third in the Pacific Division.

Woodcroft drove the Oilers’ AHL squad in Bakersfield before pushing to Edmonton.

Evander Kane, Derek Ryan, Jesse Puljujarvi, Warren Foegele, and Zach Hyman also netted for the Oilers (27-18-3), who have gone 9-1-2 in their prior 12 outings.

Oilers stay unbeaten in their last four matches

“I think everybody’s engaged,” stated Kane, who also had an assist. “I think everybody’s contributing. There was likely no better instance in this four-game winning streak likely than tonight.” Source –

Oilers starter Mike Smith earned 27 blocks. Connor McDavid and Ryan McLeod each chipped in a couple of assists.

Veteran Derek Ryan, who had a two-point night too, stated that it feels like the Oilers are playing as a whole squad than earlier.

“I feel like we suppose that everyone is getting an opportunity and an option to provide help,” he stated. “We can’t count on Leon and Connor to do everything. We require help for those guys and everyone in the top six. I think it has been useful for myself to gain some trust built up to play more and to get more of a chance offensively.” Source –
