Japan and Isreal imposed restrictions on foreign travellers:
Japan announced on Monday it would shut its borders to foreigners, as the world’s third-largest economy followed Israel in delivering the most terrible actions against the latest coronavirus variant omicron, which also formed a cloud over Australia’s reopening schemes.
Markets, however, recovered some control as investors await more details of the variant, after dropping last week on concerns it could bring new checks, warning a nascent economic recovery from a two-year pandemic.
Maybe more deadly than previous variants, omicron, first recognised in South Africa, has been discovered in Australia, Belgium, Botswana, Britain, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy, and the Netherlands.
It could take “days to several weeks” to learn the level of rigour of omicron, says the World Health Organization (WHO), which hailed it as a “variant of concern.” Source – cbc.ca

As care to avoid a worst-case scenario, Japan will shut its borders to foreigners from Tuesday, Prime Minister Fumio Kishida stated, noting that he was waiting for criticism that he was being too careful.
“These are temporary, exceptional measures that we are taking for safety’s sake until there is clearer information about the omicron variant,” Kishida described reporters. Source – cbc.ca
He did not say how long the limitation would stay. Japanese retreating from particularised countries would face quarantine in selected facilities, Kishida stated.
While Japan has not yet discovered any omicron infections, Health Minister Shigeyuki Goto stated tests were being driven to decide if the current variant had affected a tourist from Namibia who tested positive for the virus.
